"Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour" Exhibition to Open June 5 at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum

The Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum will explore superstar Carrie Underwood’s critically acclaimed world tour with the exhibition Carrie Underwood: The Blown Away Tour, which opens on June 5, 2013, and runs through November 10, 2013.

The exhibition will include costumes, instruments, microphones, set pieces and more from the six-time Grammy winner’s 2012-13 “Blown Away Tour,” which is set to re-launch on February 13 and run through May 23. The 2012 leg of “The Blown Away Tour” entertained more than a half a million fans in 62 cities across three continents.

“Carrie Underwood’s dynamic ‘Blown Away Tour’—starring her peerless powerhouse vocals and featuring amazing special effects including a tornado— has been entertaining music fans around the globe,” said Museum Director Kyle Young. “It’s easy to see why she was Pollstar’s 2012 top female country touring artist. Touring has always been a key element connecting music artists with their fans; those interactions help forge and strengthen the artist-fan relationship, and this exhibit speaks to that. We are delighted to be able to show our visitors key elements from Carrie’s show; whether re-living their favorite memories of the ‘Blown Away’ tour, or experiencing it for the first time via our exhibition, fans will enjoy this ‘up close and personal’ look at a world-class, superstar level music tour.”

Underwood’s “Blown Away Tour” also has a strong philanthropic element. The American and Canadian Red Cross will receive $1 dollar from each ticket sold on the North American leg to help provide shelter, food, and emotional support for those in need after a disaster. In 2012, Underwood also donated additional proceeds from her Atlantic City and Des Moines shows to local charities.

Carrie Underwood’s current release, Blown Away, made history last year when it debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart, making the Oklahoma native only the second country artist in the 47-year history of the chart to have each of their first four albums debut at #1. NASHVILLE – The one-of-a-kind, award-winning CMA Music Festival takes over downtown Nashville for four days this summer, Thursday through Sunday, June 6-9, with a star-packed lineup that includes Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, and more artists to be announced soon.

The Ultimate Country Music Fan Experience began in 1972 as Fan Fair®, bringing 5,000 fans to Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. More than 40 years later, the legendary festival has become the city’s signature music event, which annually attracts tens of thousands of fans from all 50 states and around the globe and has raised millions of dollars for music education. The event will once again be filmed for an ABC Television special airing later in the summer, shining a national spotlight on both Country Music and Music City.

“What an exciting lineup – and we are just getting started,” said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “Ticket sales are stronger than ever and we are always researching and developing ways to enhance the Festival experience for our attendees and the artists who continue this time-honored tradition of giving back to the fans.”

Bryan was nominated for CMA Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for tailgates & tanlines and will launch his first headline tour, the “Dirt Road Diaries Tour,” this week. Bryan last performed at CMA Music Festival in 2012, where he also co-hosted the “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” special on ABC last summer.

Platinum-selling group Lady Antebellum, made up of membersDave Haywood, Charles Kelley, and Hillary Scott, has won seven CMA Awards, including Vocal Group (2009-2011), Single (2009 for “I Run to You” and 2010 for “Need You Now,” which also earned them an additional Award for producing), and New Artist of the Year (2008). They last performed at the Festival in 2012.

Reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year, Little Big Town – consisting of members Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook – has received a career total of 11 CMA Award nominations and two wins in 2012 for Single of the Year for “Pontoon” and their first Vocal Group of the Year trophy.

A five-time CMA Award winner, Underwood will also perform on the Nightly Concerts at LP Field during 2013 CMA Music Festival. Underwood has won three CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Awards (2006-2008); and has co-hosted the CMA Awards for the last five consecutive years. Nashville, TN – Carrie Underwood may have titled her 2012 album release Blown Away, but it’s also an apt description for the five-time GRAMMY winner’s year, which on all fronts – from touring to airplay, sales, awards, and media appearances – marked an incredibly exciting year for Underwood and her fans.

Playing to more than a half-million fans throughout her 62-show 2012 “Blown Away Tour,” Underwood not only ranked as the top female country touring artist of the year according toPollstar’s Year-End chart, she also played her first concerts in Australia and the U.K, where her concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall sold out in only 90 minutes.

Carrie’s acclaimed fourth album, Blown Away, was released in May and quickly became a fan-favorite, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard country and all-genre sales charts and logging a total of seven weeks atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in 2012. Carrie Underwood Closes 2012 as Top Female Country Touring Artist

Five-time Grammy winner and current Grammy-nominee Carrie Underwood wrapped her critically acclaimed “Blown Away Tour” on Dec. 22 having performed many sell-out shows in 62 cities across the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia. Underwood was the top female country touring artist for 2012 according to Pollstar’s Year-End chart.

“The Blown Away Tour” will re-launch with a second leg of arenas on February 13, 2013 in Colorado Springs with Hunter Hayes continuing as special guest on the majority of the US and Canada shows. The tour will travel throughout America, Canada, and across the pond to the UK and Ireland. The North American dates on “The Blown Away Tour” are presented and hydrated by vitaminwater®.

The donation of $1 from each ticket sold on the North American leg of “The Blown Away Tour” will continue in 2013 to support Red Cross disaster relief. Every year, the American Red Cross prepares for and responds to nearly 70,000 disasters across the United States. This donation will help the Red Cross provide shelter, food, and emotional support for those in need after a disaster. Proceeds from her Canadian concerts will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross. In 2012, Underwood also donated additional proceeds from her Atlantic City and Des Moines shows to local charities.

Throughout the 2012 leg of “The Blown Away Tour,” Underwood performed for over a half a million fans. Her two previous headline tours, 2008’s “Carnival Ride Tour” and 2010’s “Play On Tour,” performed for a combined total of nearly 250 shows with 2.2 million fans in attendance, and she also wrapped both years as the top-ranked female country touring artist.

Grammy-Winning Superstar Carrie Underwood to Star as Maria Von Trapp in NBC's Live Broadcast of 'The Sound of Music,' Based on the Original Musical

Five-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood will star in the coveted role of Maria von Trapp in NBC’s live broadcast of “The Sound of Music,” based on the original Broadway musical, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment. The live telecast of “The Sound of Music” will be a three-hour event on a date to be announced near the holidays in 2013.

NBC is partnering with the acclaimed “Smash” producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (film versions of the Oscar-winning “Chicago” and “Hairspray”) for “The Sound of Music.” The pair also is producing the upcoming “85th Annual Academy Awards.”

“Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” said Greenblatt. “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.”

“The Sound of Music,” set in pre-WWII Austria, is based on the romantic true story of Maria von Trapp, an aspiring nun who leaves the abbey to become a governess for the widower Captain von Trapp’s seven children and finds herself falling in love with her employer and questioning her religious calling. It premiered on Broadway in 1959, where it broke box-office records and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The 1965 film version won the Best Picture Oscar. Today it is an evergreen classic — as popular in opera houses and outdoor amphitheaters as it is in high school auditoriums. “The Sound of Music” features a libretto by Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse and a score by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) that includes “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “So Long, Farewell.”

With more than 15 million albums sold worldwide, 16 #1 singles (seven of which were co-written by
Underwood) and five Grammys, Underwood is fueled by a restless creative spirit as she released her most ambitious project yet in her current platinum-selling album “Blown Away.”

She’s won a vast array of awards, including three female vocalist awards from both the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM). In 2010, when Underwood garnered her second win as ACM Entertainer of the Year, she became the first female artist in history to win the award twice. Underwood also received the ACM Triple Crown Award, thanks to her past wins for the categories of Entertainer of the Year, Top Female Vocalist and Top New Female Vocalist. sold over seven million copies, and was voted #1 Country Album of the Decade by Billboard. Her 2007 sophomore album, “Carnival Ride,” 2009’s “Play On,” and her current album, “Blown Away,” debuted atop the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
